Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)
Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP): An Inspiring Beginning
The Government of India has launched many schemes, but some do more than just provide help — they change lives.
PMEGP is one such scheme designed to transform unemployed youth from job seekers into job creators.
Vision of the Scheme
PMEGP is not limited to loans and subsidies alone; it is a plan to:
- Generate local employment.
- Promote entrepreneurship in rural areas.
- Support families not just to survive but to uplift other families as well.
The scheme is implemented through the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) under the control of the Ministry of MSME.
Who is this scheme for?
- Educated or skilled unemployed youth.
- Individuals who want to start their own business.
- Women, Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, OBCs, and differently-abled persons.
- Rural entrepreneurs and traditional artisans.
The business must be new; existing businesses are not eligible under this scheme.
